Samsarin PHP Widget 2.0 Beta 1
By | June 20th, 2009
I’ve finished writing Samsarin PHP Widget 2.0 Beta 1, which is compatible with Wordpress 2.8. It is a complete rewrite, so I plan to leave it in a beta state for a few weeks while I get feedback. If you do try the beta, please let me know how it goes.
Two important considerations with this plugin:
- As this is a complete rewrite it is not compatible with older versions of Wordpress. Use the 1.3.2 plugin for older versions.
- The plugin doesn’t upgrade old Samsarin PHP Widgets - it looks like I may be able to make upgrade possible, but it needs more investigation.

“As this is a complete rewrite it is not compatible with older versions of Wordpress. ”
It is only compatible with 2.8?
I tried it on 2.6 and it didn’t work, so maybe I’ll need to update

The new plugin only works with WP 2.8, because the API changed. If you’re on WP 2.6 I would recommend using the 1.3.2 plugin, which is the current plugin on the Wordpress site. When you move to WP 2.8+ though, you can upgrade to the newer plugin.

Works nicely with WP2.8, thanks.
I’m now able to use several PHP widgets, which I could not do with the previous version.

Hi, I just upgraded Samsarin on my web site after upgrading to WP 2.8, because I found it was only allowing me one widget I figured I now needed an upgraded Plugin/Widget, and yup, that solved it. It’s working great, letting me run several widgets on that site. Thank you very much for a plugin I can’t do without, as I run several WP sites.

FYI, I’ve installed your updated version on an install of WPMU 2.8.3, and the duplicate widget interface isn’t showing up.
The single Samsarin PHP Widget is available to me in the list of sidebar widgets, but I don’t have the menu at the bottom of the page that allows me to provision multiple instances.

Doh. Never mind. I just realized that when I add the widget, it’s still available to me to add to another sidebar.
Sorry for the mistake!
Great plugin, btw, and thanks for the upgrade!!

Hello,
Anyone able to get shortcodes working with this plugin? My shortcodes work with all other widgets. Samsarin Widget only returns the code, not the result of the code.
Thanks,
Jacob

Hi,
In the new version of samsarin, the php code in the title of widget doesn’t work, is it normal ?
Thanks
Sam

Sam,
Thanks for pointing that out. That was a regression that came in 2.1 specifically. I’ve posted a 2.1.1 that should address that for you. You can get it at http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/samsarin-php-widget/download/ once it is shows up (it usually takes about 20 - 30 minutes to post).

Thank you for this update but why does the new versions don’t show on Wordpress.org ? The last version visible is 1.3.2 ???

@Li-An
For the moment you can get the latest plugin (2.1.1) here: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/samsarin-php-widget/download/
I left the version at 1.3.2 for now, because there is not a nice migration path from 1.3.2 to 2.x that preserves 1.3.2 widgets.

Hi Chris,
Thanks for your work, but I have a question.
2.1.1 works with Wordpress 2.9.1 when I use basic PHP. However, the following code to display my latest Twitter tweet doesn’t seem to work. Any idea why?
http://scriptplayground.com/tutorials/php/Latest-Twitter-Update-With-PHP/
I know there are plugins to grab Twitter updates, but I’m trying to do it this way so I can include other code in the single widget to avoid messing up my Wordpress theme!
Thanks,
Darren.
